The beaches are yours to explore & discover

The beaches of Mykonos are among the most famous in Greece, combining crystal clear waters, golden sand and a vibrant cosmopolitan life. From organized beaches with beach bars and intense entertainment to quieter and more secluded corners, the island offers options for every taste. Their natural beauty, combined with the lively atmosphere, attracts visitors from all over the world.

Megali Ammos

You will walk to the nearest sandy beach in Chora. As its name suggests, it is quite large, but it is also very busy. It is hit by the north winds, so it is ideal for windsurfing.

Agios Ioannis (or Ai-Yiannis)

Organized, with sun loungers and umbrellas and a nice view of Delos. It attracts foreign and Greek visitors from the neighboring settlement of Ornos and is preferred by families. There are taverns, hotels, etc. If you walk to the south side, you will reach the rocks called Achinopodi. It is 4 km from Chora.

Agios Stefanos

A beach in Chora, at the northern end of Tourlos Bay, surrounded by taverns and hotels. It has sun loungers and umbrellas and offers a nice view of the town – however, it does not reach the standards of Mykonian beaches in any way.

Kappari

It is one of the most beautiful and quiet beaches on the island. It is located relatively close to Agios Ioannis and Ornos. It is small, with fine sand, without infrastructure. It is surrounded by rocks for diving. From here you will enjoy a view of Delos and a wonderful sunset. It is 5 km. from the town (and be careful of the short downhill path to the sandy beach).

Ornos

In front of the homonymous settlement of Ornos, one of the most developed tourist areas on the island. It is surrounded by hotels and in the summer it is suffocatingly filled with those who vacation in Ornos. Boats anchor in the harbor and in the open. It has sunbeds and umbrellas, taverns, cafes, beach bars, shops, a diving center. Boats leave from here for other beaches of Mykonos (Psarou, Elia, Agrari and Super Paradise). It is only 3 km. from Chora, to the south.

Psarou

Since 1980, Psarou has begun to attract the preference of VIPs from both Greece and abroad. Its reputation took off thanks to the Nammos restaurant and beach bar.
Although the beach is narrow and crowded, the beach service has nothing to envy to that of a five-star hotel. There is a waiting list for sunbeds (as on other beaches of the island). That is why the privileged rent them by the season, or by the month.
You can do water sports and diving, there are hotels, shops and other infrastructure. Many luxury yachts and yachts tie up a little further from the beach.
It is located next to Platys Gialos and is 4 km. from Chora. Access is also possible by boat.

Platys Gialos

A large, wide and very beautiful sandy beach, within easy reach of Ornos and Chora, from which it is 5 km. away. However, it is hit by the meltemi. It has sun loungers, straw umbrellas and cushions on the sand, a beach bar and all the infrastructure around it. Water sports are offered and it is the starting point for water taxis and boats to other beaches on the island (Super Paradise, Elia, Agrari, etc.).

Paraga

It offers wonderful views of Naxos and Paros, has fine sand, sun loungers and umbrellas, beach bars, restaurants, etc. Many rocks in the sea create a natural platform for diving and snorkeling, but they also gather people, so it will be difficult to find a place to spread out your towel. It is located 6 km south of Chora.

Agia Anna of Paragkas

It is named this way to distinguish it from Agia Anna of Kalafatis. It is relatively quiet, with sand, rocks in some places and a few sun loungers. There is a fish tavern that puts out tables and chairs on the sand. If you stay until dusk, you will enjoy the sunset. It is located between Paragkas and Platis Gialos, 12 km from Chora.

Paradise

Since 1969, when the Paradise campsite opened, the beach, which until then was called Kalamopodi, has been filled with hippies and has become synonymous with Paradise – hence its name. The internationally famous Paradise, with its fine sand and turquoise waters, remains a paradise – but for those who love loud “unusual” music and the crowds of fashionable beach bars. Around it spreads a small village with shops, café-bars-restaurants, pool bars, hotels and much more. You can do all kinds of sports (ski, banana, tubes, beach-volley) and diving. It is 5.5 km. from Chora.

Super Paradise

Take a dip in the crystal clear waters, open your eyes in the water and see the whole palette of green-blue and turquoise waters that unfolds into the depths. The large bay hosts one of the most internationally famous beaches in the Aegean. In the evening parties with famous guest DJs, thousands of young people take part and the fun seems to never end. Of course, celebrities will also pass through here, along with the paparazzi.
You can come by road or by boat. It is 6.5 km. from Chora.

Agrari

It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island – however, in the shallows large “plates” of solidified sand have formed that are slippery, so it requires attention. There are umbrellas, sun loungers, a beach bar, a restaurant. It is ideal for windsurfing and skiing. It is about 8 km. from Chora and is located between Elia and Super Paradise.

Elia

It is the largest beach of Mykonos, very cosmopolitan and with a section for nudists. In the open, luxurious yachts are moored. All along the sandy beach there are sun loungers-umbrellas, beach bars, taverns and infrastructure for water sports such as skiing, parachute, windsurfing, tubes, etc. It has a view of Naxos. It is 8 km. from Chora.

Kalo Livadi

A large and wide sandy beach with sun loungers-umbrellas, lifeguard, beach bars. It is preferred by families and those who love beach volleyball. The only drawback is that it is “caught” by strong southerly winds, while when there is a strong northerly wind, sandstorms arise. It has easy access by land and by boat from Platys Gialos.

Kalafati(s)

The organized beach is 1 km long and in the summer it is filled with people enjoying the crystal clear waters and engaging in water sports (ski, tubes, wakeboard, banana, etc.). Windsurfers love it because during the summer months there are constant winds of 4-6 Beaufort force – especially in the afternoon. There are beach bars, restaurants and a diving center. It is about 12 km from Chora and you can easily reach it by following the road from Ano Mera (there is a sign). To the west of Kalafati is Divounia, where a prehistoric settlement has been discovered: there is a small harbor with fishing huts and taverns.

Agia Anna Kalafati

A small peninsula separates Agia Anna from Kalafati beach. It is quiet, with some umbrellas and sun loungers, and you can play beach volleyball. It is about 10 km. from Chora.

Lia

A little further east than Kalafatis, secular, with crystal clear green-blue waters, coarse sand and a few pebbles, sunbeds-umbrellas, beach-bar, restaurant and a good fish tavern. It is about 14 km. from Chora.

Agios Sostis

It is one of the beaches that visitors of the 60s-70s and nudists loved. The hippies, in fact, built thatched huts on the sand, or pitched tents. Although it is located in the north, the beach is quite sheltered. There are no facilities, but you can eat at the traditional tavern. The picturesque chapel of Agios Sostis, from which the beach took its name, is surrounded by luxurious villas. It is 7 km. from Chora.

Panormos

A large sandy beach with very nice waters. It used to be more deserted, but is now well-known to visitors. It has a beach bar-restaurant that also offers umbrellas and sun loungers.

Ftelia

This sandy beach is located in the deepest part of the bay of Panormos and, due to the constantly blowing northerly winds, its name has become synonymous with windsurfing on the island. For swimmers, things are rather difficult, since there are usually quite large waves. If you insist on swimming, however, you will be more protected at the edges of the sand. Due to the wind, umbrellas and sun loungers have not been set up. A Neolithic settlement has been excavated in the area.
Ftelia is 5.5 km. from Chora.

Mersini (or Myrsini)

On this sandy beach with emerald waters you will swim alone and you can stay for hours – just bring supplies with you because there is no infrastructure. It is located west of the bay of Fokos, below the chapel of Agia Anna and near the deserted, rocky shores of Cape Mavros. To get there, you will follow the signs on the road to Fokos beach (4.5 km north of Ano Mera and 12.5 km from Chora).

Fokos

A small, beautiful and relatively deserted beach surrounded by rocks. It has sand and deep waters. There is no tourist infrastructure, only a traditional tavern. To get there, you will follow the signs on the road 4.5 km north of Ano Mera. It is 12.5 km from Chora (from a certain point onwards there is a passable dirt road).

Pano and Kato Tigani

If you are a nudist or want solitude even in August, these are the ideal beaches for you. They are next to each other and very small (imagine that they can fit a maximum of 20 people on each one). Just opposite is the deserted rocky islet Tragonisi (or Dragonisi). They are located on the relatively inaccessible and virgin east coast of the island. The same dirt road that leads to Vathia Lagada ends at Tigani. They are about 17 km from Chora.
